Visibility Tracking
When someone asks ChatGPT "best sustainable running shoes," does your brand show up? Visibility tracking measures how often AI engines mention you, where in the response you appear, and how your presence compares to competitors over time.
Visibility Score
Your visibility score is the percentage of tracked prompts where AI mentioned your brand. If you track 100 prompts and AI mentions you in 45 responses, your visibility score is 45%.
Allbirds example: across all tracked running shoe prompts on ChatGPT, Allbirds appears in roughly 45% of responses — strong for sustainability queries, weaker for performance-focused ones.
Share of Voice
Share of voice measures your brand's mentions as a proportion of ALL brand mentions across your tracked prompts. It answers: "of all the brands AI recommends in my category, what percentage is me?"
Allbirds example: with a 10.7% share of voice across running shoe queries, Allbirds captures roughly 1 in 10 brand mentions — competitive in the sustainable segment but trailing leaders in the broader performance category.
Mention Position (Zones)
Not all mentions are equal. A2Z Reach classifies where your brand appears in each AI response:
- Intro zone: First paragraph — highest authority signal. The AI leads with brands it considers most relevant.
- Body zone: Middle discussion — solid inclusion but not the top-of-mind pick.
- Verdict zone: Final recommendation — the "if I had to choose one" position. Most valuable for conversion.
A brand mentioned only in the body has lower effective visibility than one placed in the verdict, even though both count as "visible."
Mention Count
How many times your brand name appears within a single AI response. Multiple mentions signal strong relevance — the AI keeps returning to your brand across different aspects of the answer.
How Visibility Is Calculated
Each day, A2Z Reach sends your tracked prompts to AI engines and captures the full response. For each response, we determine:
- Did the AI mention your brand? (case-insensitive substring match)
- Where in the response? (zone classification: intro/body/verdict)
- How many times? (total mention count)
- What other brands appeared? (share of voice denominator)
Reading Trends Over Time
Visibility metrics are captured daily. The timeseries view reveals whether your GEO efforts are working:
- Rising visibility + rising SoV: Your content strategy is gaining traction with AI engines
- Rising visibility + flat SoV: You're appearing more, but so are competitors — category is getting crowded
- Flat visibility + rising SoV: You're being mentioned in fewer responses but dominating those you appear in
- Dropping visibility: Competitors are displacing you — check exclusion analysis for why
What Good vs Bad Looks Like
- Strong: 60%+ visibility, 15%+ SoV, frequent verdict-zone placement, 2+ mentions per response
- Moderate: 30–60% visibility, 8–15% SoV, mostly body-zone mentions
- Weak: Below 30% visibility, under 8% SoV, rare mentions only in body — signals the AI doesn't consider you a category leader
Context matters: a niche brand with 40% visibility on targeted sustainability prompts is in a stronger position than a generalist brand with 40% on broad "best shoes" queries where competition is fiercer.
